Focaccia: more than just bread

Focaccia, it is so much more than just bread. This light and tasty treat from Italy is the perfect addition to any Italian meal or party. Just on its own with a drizzle of olive oil and some sea salt is also possible!

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams of flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 7 grams of yeast
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 300 milliliters of warm water
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • Coarse sea salt and rosemary for the topping
  • Optional balsamic vinegar

Preparation:

  1. Step 1: Mix the sugar, warm water and yeast in a bowl and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  2. Step 2: Add the flour and salt and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Step 3: Knead the dough for 10 minutes on a floured surface.
  4. Step 4: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover and let rise for 1 hour in a warm place.
  5. Step 5: Preheat the oven to 200°C.
  6. Step 6: Flatten the dough into a rectangular shape, make small indentations in the dough with your fingers and sprinkle with olive oil.
  7. Step 7: Sprinkle with coarse sea salt and rosemary.
  8. Step 8: Bake in the oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.
Enjoy your homemade focaccia with an olive oil and balsamic vinegar dip.
