Sustainability

Cooking and respect for nature – in all its manifestations – go hand in hand. Only the most beautiful ingredients that the land or sea have to offer lead to the most delicious dishes. We are therefore increasingly opting for meat or vegetables of organic origin or at least ingredients with as much respect for animal welfare as possible or that leave the smallest possible footprint. All that sustainability left us wanting more.

Sustainable cooking and eating

Sous vide is one of the very best ways to prepare food in terms of sustainability. The sous vide method uses little energy, which makes this preparation method perfect for the chef who wants to contribute to sustainability. With this modern cooking technique, we cook the ingredients in a warm water bath at a constant low temperature. After a few hours of floating in the warm water, that beautiful piece of organic beef will eventually reach the doneness that you as a chef have in mind. If you choose meat or fish, we better make sure it is prepared perfectly, right?

Sous vide cooking is more sustainable

Although sous vide cooking is already a step forward in terms of sustainability, one thing remained a thorn in our side: the plastic sous vide bags. The dish is packed in a plastic bag, which we then vacuum and seal. By packaging the contents properly, we prevent our ingredients from coming into direct contact with the hot water and keep all our flavors inside the packaging. After use, the bag ends up in the trash. A waste of this plastic of course, so that had to be different!

Reusable bags for sous vide

We have a reusable sous vide bag in our catalogue. These vacuum bags can be opened and closed several times. They are very easy to vacuum by placing a vacuum pump on the valve. The reusable sous vide bags are of course made of food-safe and BPA-free material. And suitable for temperatures from -30 to 100 degrees Celsius. So they can also be used in the freezer.

One set consists of twenty of these reusable vacuum bags. So you immediately have more than enough resealable bags to replace the old-fashioned and therefore environmentally harmful plastic vacuum bag. We are also busy developing a completely plastic-free sous vide bag. With these environmentally friendly alternatives we can further reduce the use of plastic and, as sous vide enthusiasts, make our own contribution to reducing the waste mountain.
