“Take care of your things!” Your parents must have said it to you when you were younger. You may still hear your parents say it. They were right. When you take good care of things, they last longer. That is still true in 2017. Take care of them and maintain them well.
So I need to clean my sous vide appliance ?
Yes, definitely do! This is a device that comes into contact with tap water. Tap water is almost always contaminated with lime, which can cause nasty limescale deposits on your device. This reduces the performance of your device and shortens its lifespan. This is not the intention.
How do I get rid of limescale?
To get rid of limescale, you need to clean the sous vide appliance. This is often done with vinegar, or with a solution of citric acid. We at Souvy have come up with something that works better: sous vide cleaning powder . This powder contains, among other things, citric acid powder, which causes a chemical reaction that makes the limescale contamination disappear easily. Sounds good, right?

What steps should I take to clean my sous vide appliance?
Start by finding a pan or container. To save powder, it is useful to clean your appliance in a relatively small amount of water. The sous vide appliance must of course be far enough into the water, otherwise not all limescale will be removed. A 2-litre measuring cup is ideal, for example.
Roadmap
- Dissolve 50 grams of powder per liter of water
- Attach the sous vide device and set it to 70 °C
- Then let it circulate for at least 20 minutes
- Then rinse the sous vide appliance with clean water
Your appliance is now cleaned and ready to go! We recommend cleaning your sous vide appliance with descaling powder after approximately 10 uses. This depends on the amount of limescale.
